Feels like nothing at all. Wool made so buttery that you forget you’re wearing it.
“I wore this suit to Australian Fashion Week and I almost forgot I had it on.
That is the test of a great cloth.”
Pouring rain outside. A warm room, full of voices. A long evening of conversations ahead. The kind of night that asks something of you. I pulled this suit on, walked out into the wet, and stopped thinking about it within minutes.
The Target Elite olive green herringbone from Holland & Sherry is a pure wool cloth that wears like a second skin. Sexy. Soft. Buttery against the body. Almost weightless once it is on you.
You stop registering the suit. You start feeling more like yourself inside it.
100% Super 120’s wool. 260 grams. That fine a yarn count is where the buttery handle comes from. Smooth, refined, soft to the touch without losing its tailoring. And at 260 grams, it sits at the lighter end of the suiting weight spectrum, which is exactly why it disappears on the body. Heavy enough to hold a beautifully tailored silhouette. Light enough to forget you are wearing it.
This is wool doing what wool does best. It breathes. It moves with you. It regulates your temperature without ever asking for your attention. A properly transeasonal cloth, autumn through spring in Sydney, the long stretch of the British and European year. Warm rooms, cool air, a long night ahead. The cloth absorbs all of it and gives you back ease.
The colour does the rest of the work. Dark olive. Green in some lights, near-black in others, with a softness underneath that keeps it elegant rather than severe. On a woman with warm depth in her colouring, this is the shade that switches the light on. Rich brunettes. Bronzed, golden, olive-toned skin. The women who already live in chocolate, cognac, and espresso. Deep autumn, the whole way through.
The herringbone itself is fine in scale. A quiet diagonal rhythm that introduces vertical movement through the cloth without ever announcing itself. On the body, that translates to length. You read taller and more vertical. Particularly powerful on women with long vertical lines and narrow to moderate shoulders. The chevron echoes the natural verticality of the frame and the fine scale keeps the shoulder line clean. Women with broader or stronger shoulders can absolutely wear it, simply scaled with a softer shoulder construction and a longer trouser to keep the line moving downward. On a more compact frame, keep the trouser long and the silhouette uninterrupted. The cloth will do the rest.
I see this one at its best as a full suit. Trouser and jacket in matching tone, the herringbone reading as depth rather than pattern. Equally compelling as a statement jacket worn over ivory silk or fine cashmere.
Styled with cream, camel, chocolate, or oxblood, endlessly wearable. Worn with black, sharpened.
